Cost of traveling in Tuscany

🏠 Accommodation

Accommodation prices in Tuscany vary depending on the location and time of year. Budget options like guesthouses, B&Bs, or hostels usually start at around €50-€80 per night. Mid-range hotels and agriturismos (farm stays) typically range from €100-€150 per night. If you're staying in tourist hotspots like Florence, prices can be a bit higher, especially in the summer months.

🚍 Transportation

Renting a car is popular, especially for exploring the more remote towns and vineyards. Car rentals typically range from €40-€70 per day, depending on the season and type of car.

When we don’t have a car, we mostly use the train, which is an affordable and convenient option. You can easily book tickets through Trenitalia, Italy's main train operator. It’s super simple to check all the prices and schedules in advance, so you can plan your trips accordingly.

🍽️ Food and Dining

Eating out in Tuscany is a treat, and you can find plenty of affordable options. Casual meals at local trattorias or pizzerias usually cost between €10-€20 per person. A nice meal with wine at a mid-range restaurant will run around €30-€50 per person.

We enjoyed some delicious Tuscan meals, and typically spent about €40-€60 for dinner. A traditional Tuscan dish like ribollita or pappa al pomodoro, paired with a glass of Chianti, is a great choice—tasty, filling, and won’t break the bank!

🏛️ Activities

Tuscany offers a mix of free and paid activities. Exploring the stunning countryside, hiking in the hills, or visiting charming towns like San Gimignano or Pienza are all free activities. You can also visit vineyards at no cost.

Wine tours and guided activities can range from €40-€100 depending on the tour.

Entry fees for museums and historical sites in cities like Florence are usually between €10-€20 per person.
