Where to stay in Cyprus

🛏️ The Ultimate Guide to Where to Stay in Cyprus for Your Perfect Trip

If you're planning a trip to Cyprus, it's essential to know the distinct vibe of each city to make the best choice for your stay. Here’s my take on three popular destinations in Cyprus:

🌴 Paphos

Paphos is definitely more about relaxation and history, with ancient sites like the Tombs of the Kings and the Paphos Archaeological Park. But honestly, I found the other parts of Cyprus, like Ayia Napa and Protaras, much more stunning and vibrant for visitors. Paphos felt a bit rundown to me, and the beaches weren’t as impressive compared to the crystal-clear waters in Ayia Napa.

If you do stay in Paphos, I’d recommend finding accommodation either near the beach or in the Old Town area.

🌊 Ayia Napa

Ayia Napa is your go-to destination if you’re after stunning, crystal-clear beaches and vibrant nightlife. It’s famous for its top-notch beaches, like Nissi Beach and Makronissos Beach, and its legendary party scene. However, if partying isn’t your thing, you can still enjoy the area by staying a bit outside the city center.

We stayed at a hotel on the outskirts of the city, and it was fantastic—just a 20-minute walk to the beach, which was totally manageable.

🏖️ Protaras

If you’re a beach lover, Protaras is the place for you. It has some of the best beaches in Cyprus, and it’s much quieter than Ayia Napa. It’s a perfect destination if you want a relaxed beach holiday without all the noise and crowds. You can still find a good amount of bars, restaurants, and activities to do, but the vibe is more laid-back.

I loved hanging out here because it’s a quieter escape without missing out on all the essentials. You’ll find a wide range of accommodation, from cozy apartments to high-end resorts, depending on your preferences.

Pro Tip for Budget Travelers:

If you’re looking to save, Ayia Napa can actually be a more affordable option than Paphos, especially if you book ahead. While Paphos offers a range of accommodations, Ayia Napa has cheaper stays near the beaches and vibrant nightlife. On the other hand, Protaras provides a more peaceful vibe with stunning beaches, and although it’s not as lively as Ayia Napa, you’ll find budget-friendly options that offer great value for money. If you prefer a quieter, more affordable place to stay, Ayia Napa and Protaras are your best bets!
