Cost of traveling in Cebu

If you're traveling on a budget in the Philippines, you can keep costs low while still enjoying a fantastic experience.

🏠 Accommodation

For accommodation, you can find hostels or basic guesthouses for around €10-€30 per night. In some places, dorm rooms or shared spaces can cost as little as €8 if you're willing to stay in budget spots, so it's easy to find something affordable even in more popular destinations.

While you can still find good, basic rooms, the standard of cleanliness and comfort can be a bit hit-or-miss. In some areas, the budget options may feel quite basic, and some places may not be as well-maintained as you might expect in other parts of Southeast Asia. But, if you're okay with simple accommodations, you'll still find plenty.

🚍 Transportation

Getting around on a budget is quite easy, especially if you're open to a few local transport options. Motorbike rentals are a great way to explore, costing around €9-€14 per day.

For city trips or if you prefer not to rent a bike, taxis are available. You can also use Grab, the local ride-hailing app, for a slightly more comfortable experience at €1.50-€6.00 per short trip.

For longer distances, buses are a budget-friendly option, particularly for traveling between towns or provinces. Bus fares range from €2-€10 depending on the destination.

If you're hopping between islands, ferries are an affordable way to travel, with tickets usually costing between €10-€25 depending on the distance.

🍽️ Food and Dining

When it comes to food, street food is the way to go if you want to keep costs down. Snacks like skewered meats, fish balls, and local noodle dishes can cost as little as €0.50-€2. Local eateries offer affordable and filling meals for around €2-€5, so you can eat well without spending a lot. I especially loved the food in the Philippines, and I found it to be one of the cheapest in Southeast Asia.

🏰 Activities

For activities, there are plenty of affordable options, especially if you’re into nature and outdoor adventures. Group island hopping tours are usually around €17-€25, and they typically include visits to several islands or snorkeling spots. Entrance fees to local attractions, like waterfalls or scenic spots, are often very low, typically costing between €0.50-€2.
